The Origins of CDMA and GSM
CDMA: Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) is a technology developed by Qualcomm in the United States, and it is currently the dominant network standard in North America.
GSM: Global System for Mobile communications (GSM) was invented in 1987 by the GSM Association, an international organization dedicated to developing the GSM standard worldwide.
CDMA was established earlier in North America and thus has a bit more coverage than GSM. GSM on the other hand is an international standard backed by an international organization and the protocol is a more mature and thus more robust. There is no clear winner in the CDMA vs. GSM debate here; it all depends on your needs.

Coverage of CDMA versus GSM
CDMA: CDMA is mostly used in America and some parts of Asia. It is currently making progress in other parts of the world, but the coverage is still limited compared to the GSM technology. Its support is currently non-existent in Europe because the European Union mandates the sole use of GSM. In North America however, CDMA generally offers a better coverage than GSM in some rural areas because it was deployed earlier. The CDMA network reaches over 270 million users worldwide.
GSM: GSM being an international standard, it is better suited for international roaming, provided you own a quad-band cell phone (850/900/1800/1900 MHz). The GSM network is also well established in North America, but not as much as the CDMA network yet. The GSM network reaches over a billion users worldwide.
CDMA is prominent in North America, but GSM reaches a lot more users worldwide (about 270 millions for CDMA and 1 billion for GSM). In the CDMA against GSM debate, GSM wins if you plan to travel to foreign countries but CDMA might have a better coverage in your area.

Data Transfer
CDMA: The best data transfer technology CDMA has to offer is the EVDO technology, allowing for a maximum download speed of about 2mb/s (about 700kbps in practice), which is similar to what a DSL line has to offer. EVDO is not available everywhere yet and requires a cell phone that is EVDO ready.
GSM: GSM on the other hand offers EDGE, allowing for a maximum download speed of 384kbps (around 140kbps in practice). More technologies are being developed on top of EDGE such as HSDPA to boost the transfer rate to over 384kbps in practice. This technology requires an EDGE-ready cell phone.
CDMA offers faster data download. GSM is catching up fast, but its EDGE technology is subject to interferences. CDMA would therefore be the favoured choice for data transfer.

Phone Identification (SIM cards)
CDMA: On a CDMA phone, your account information is programmed into your cellular phone. If you want to change your phone, you have to contact your carrier and have them reprogram your new phone. You will also need to re-enter your contact list and calendar information into your new phone. If you have a lot of contacts, your carrier might be able to help you perform this task. Some CDMA 2000 cell phones support R-UIM cards (Removable User Identity Module) which are used to store account information and contact lists, but these are not very common in North America yet.
GSM: On a GSM phone, your account information along with your contact list and other personal data are stored on a SIM card (Subscriber Identity Module). It is a small chip you can freely remove from your phone. When you get a new mobile device, you can simply insert your SIM card into it and it will work with your current account information and contact list. If you travel to another country, it might even be possible to purchase a prepaid SIM card which you can use to avoid roaming fees.
GSM is a clear winner here. The SIM card technology offers many advantages if you plan to travel or switch phone often. CDMA phones are slowly catching up with R-UIM cards, but cell phones that make use of this technology as still rare.

Which technology is the best for me?
When asking yourself which technology to choose between CDMA vs. GSM, first ask yourself the following questions:
1. Is international roaming important to me? If you travel a lot to foreign countries, you might want to opt for a GSM phone for a better coverage.
2. Am I going to transfer a lot of data using the phone? Currently, CDMA offers the best data transfer speed with its EVDO technology and is the clear winner for now. If you intend to use the phone for mobile web browsing, watching television or downloading MP3s, you might be better off with a CDMA phone.
3. Do I plan to change phone often? If you do, a GSM phone is best for you since you can swap the SIM card to a new device without having to re-enter your personal data.
Once you have established your basic needs, compare CDMA and GSM signals in your region. Also compare the carriers offering both services in your area. Talk to your friends and colleagues and ask them if they are satisfied with their cell phone carrier and how good their signal is. Remember, when choosing between CDMA vs. GSM, preferring a network technology over another also means limiting your choice in carriers.

Kotaku made a handy chart comparing the two $300 game consoles from Microsoft and Sony, and it sure looks like the PS3 comes out on top. Unfortunately, none of this stuff actually sells consoles.

Yes, Blue-ray is a big aspect of what makes the PS3 appealing. But for gamers, is that a huge selling point? As for Wi-Fi, well, that depends on your setup. Most gamers who are serious about playing online probably would rather plug their console right into their router. And Bluetooth? Who gives a shit about Bluetooth?

To be fair, there are definite advantages to PS3 that make it appear to be a better value. Really want a Blu-ray player? Home theater setup too far away from your router to plug the console right in? Turned off by an annual charge for online services? The PS3 is right up your alley.

But for many people who are interested in serious gaming consoles, what matters most is software, not hardware. And the Xbox 360 arguably has the best games library and the best online service. And for me at least, that makes up for Bluetooth and Wi-Fi about 50 times over, which is why I would personally recommend the Xbox 360 to a friend over the PS3. But despite that fact, the decision as to what console to buy has never been harder.

It is possible to find out the highest sound frequency you can hear online. It is said that the younger you are, the higher the frequency you can hear. Ultrasonic Ringtones has all the higher frequencies a normal human should be able to hear. You can somewhat test your hearing on this web site, but take this with a grain of salt. It is by no mean a replacement for a test done by an audiologist.

It's easy to create your own icons in Windows XP.
Click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, and then click Paint. On the Image menu, click Attributes.
Type 32 for both the Width and Height of the document, and make sure that Pixels is selected under Units.
Click OK to create a new 32x32-pixel document: the size of an icon.
Now add type, color, or do whatever you'd like to your image. I like to shrink photos (headshots work best) to 32x32 and simply paste them into my Paint document. When you're finished, open the File menu and click Save As. Use the dialog box to choose where you want to save your file, then give it a name followed by ".ico" (without the quotes), and click Save. (The extension ".ico" tells Windows that it's an icon file.) You just created an icon! Now you can change any shortcut or folder to your own icon—just browse to it on your hard drive.

Microsoft(MS) Word Ban in US

Software violates patent held by i4i, a Canadian software maker

Microsoft has been ordered by a US court to stop selling MS Word in the country in 60 days. The ban, which is applicable on the 2003 and 2007 version, comes after it was determined that technology used in the software violates a patent held by i4i, a Canadian software maker.
This decision comes as the climax of a legal dispute that has been going on since May, when i4i was awarded $200 million damages from a federal jury.

MS Word forms a part of the MS Office suite of productivity applications, which is one of Microsoft's best-selling products with millions of users worldwide. Word 2007 is the latest installment, with the next version of Office expected to be out only next year.

Microsoft is expected to appeal against the verdict. "We are disappointed by the court's ruling," said Microsoft spokesman Kevin Kutz. "We believe the evidence clearly demonstrated that we do not infringe and that the i4i patent is invalid."

i4i's dispute is centered on a way of processing electronic documents that removes the need for individual, manually embedded command codes to control text formatting in electronic documents. Both MS Word 2003 and MS Word 2007 use extensible markup language or XML. i4i says that Microsoft's method of customizing XML for its products infringes its patent.

However, things are not that bleak for the software giant. It is set to appeal and it's probable that the court verdict will be overruled. Barring that, Microsoft can try to come to an out of court settlement with i4i or just tweak its software to comply with the court's demand.

Sony announces Memory Stick XC Format

Sony has finalized specifications of Memory Stick XC, which was also known back during CES 2009 as “Memory Stick Format Series for Extended High Capacity.” At that time, Sony had mentioned that this new Memory Stick would have 2TB maximum capacity, but details were rather scarce. A new page on Sony’s oss-formats.org website has listed all of the details for the Memory Stick XC, which is really exciting especially considering that the form factor for these new flash cards are (on paper) the same as pre-existing memory sticks, which means that these high capacity juggernauts are most likely backwards compatible. The entire cast and crew are back, including Duo, Micro, and the HG variants. Additionally, the XC series also uses the much more efficient exFAT file system, while the PRO series uses FAT12/16/32. The 2TB Memory Stick Duo picture used in this story is a photoshop by yours truly, but this won’t be much different than the real thing. License agreements for the Memory Stick XC are now available to interested hardware manufacturers.

Update: There seems to be some confusion amongst the Internet about this story. A 2 TB maximum capacity doesn’t mean that you will see a 2 TB Memory Stick XC next year. That is probably years away – however, it does open the door for 64GB, 128GB, etc; a natural progression to the 2 TB limit is to be expected.

Intel's posterboy processor for the 32 nm Westmere architecture, the six-core Gulftown is now living, breathing silicon. The company seems to have already dispatched samples of the chip. Gulftown is based on the LGA-1366 socket. Featuring 6 cores and 12 threads with HyperThreading enabled, it holds 12 MB of L3 cache to support the additional data load over the QuickPath Interconnect.

A noted enthusiast has two Gulftown processors running in a dual-socket setup. This 12 core, 24 thread monstrosity uses 24 GB of DDR3 memory using 4 GB modules (perhaps 2 x 3 modules). God of War movie script leaked?

CinCity2000 reports that they've come across the advance script of the God of War movie, which was written by David Self. CC2K described the script in detail in their article, written by Big Ross, and the the movie seems to be based on the events on the first God of War. The script (or parts of it) were not published, but the claim is big enough to spark this juicy rumor anew. *SPOILER WARNING*

You might be wondering about the spoiler warning. We all know what happened in God of War one, and despite the close adherence of the movie to the in-game storyline, the ending will be different: Instead of accepting the offer to replace Ares as the God of War, Kratos refuses, continues his cliff dive, whispering "Your turn, Hades..." as he falls.

Now we turn to who's playing Kratos. For me, no one will ever make a better Kratos than Vin Diesel, and perhaps Goldberg would come a distant second. Lead game designer David Jaffe, however, wants Djimon Honsou to take the role. Djimon's a great actor and everything, but he doesn't quite give out a fierce Kratos aura like Vin Diesel can.

Just a reminder - this is a rumor, so let's not get carried away...just yet. It's not clear whether the script was part of the Brett Ratner-directed movie that got shelved, or if this one is a new project under a new director.

Indian Govt bans popular toon Porn Site(savitabhabhi.com)

India’s government has banned popular toon porn site Savitabhabhi.com. According to documents seen by contentSutra.com, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, has asked all Internet Service Providers to block the website in a communication dated 3 June.

The Controller of Certifying Authorities (CCA), a government agency under the Department of Information Technology, is the agency that is entrusted under the IT Act to block websites.

N. Vijayaditya, of the CCA, confirmed the development. “There were several complaints against the site. We have taken action under the relevant sections of the IT Act and blocked the site,” he said. When asked if the agency will give a chance to the owners of the site to defend themselves, he said nobody has come forward so far with such a request. He said he could not say if the agency will pursue legal action against the operators of the website.

There has been mounting concern over upcoming amendments to the IT Act that gives the government absolute powers to block any website without a hearing or assigning any reasons. In a recent column in The Hindu, media critic Sevanti Ninan laid down several concerns arising from the absolutist rules that will soon have the power of law. “What about a right to be heard before the blocking? There is none,” she wrote.

Launched in March 2008, Savitabhabhi.com is an adult cartoon strip featuring a married Indian woman’s sexual adventures. Bhabhi is Hindi for sister-in-law. It quickly acquired a cult following with its funny plot lines and the uniqueness of having an Indian setting in a porn strip. The strip received much press last year, from Indian (Mint, Tehelka) and international (The Telegraph, The Independent) media outlets. According to Alexa.com, Savitabhabhi is the 82nd-most-visited Indian website, attracting more visitors than Bseindia.com, the website of the Bombay Stock Exchange. In February, when Mint interviewed the anonymous creator of the strip, the site ranked 45th in India....................

Rumor: PSP2 will have quad-core GPU

Ah, numbers. Sony's already cleared up that 480MHz figure on the PSP Go, but now we have another rumor bringing up more impressive digits that lay in the PSP's future.

Eurogamer.es is claiming to have insider sources who say that the PSP2 (note that this isn't the same as the PSP Go) will have a quad-core graphics chip inside its as-yet-unrevealed structure. This is reportedly a quad-core version of the low-power SGX543MP chip, codenamed "Hydra".

Eurogamer's translation of the original Spanish report notes that the single core version of the chip has been demonstrated at CES running Quake 3 Arena at 30FPS. I can't claim to know a whole lot about hardware, so here's more from Eurogamer:

The obvious difference of course is that the SGX543MP is a multicore processor, available with anything up to 16 cores on tap. According to the original report, PSP2 opts for a quad configuration offering notional specs of 133 million polygons per second, and 4Gpixels/sec fillrate, assuming that Hydra operates at the chip's low-end of 200MHz (higher speed variants are also available, presumably for desktop use). While specs like this are always subject to interpretation, these figures are a ballpark match for the original Xbox. However, PowerVR's tech includes tile-based deferred rendering, which should provide a nice performance boost.
The chip is also described as being able to operate as both graphics processor and CPU, so the PSP2 could conceivably use a single chip for everything, which can save power as well as being more efficient from a programming perspective.

Under "127.0.0.1 localhost" Add 127.0.0.2 www.sitenameyouwantblocked.com , and that site will no longer be accessable.

Open Control Panel
Click on System.
Then click on the Advanced tab

Ascii table
ASCII stands for American Standard Code for Information Interchange. Computers can only understand numbers, so an ASCII code is the numerical representation of a character such as 'a' or '@' or an action of some sort. ASCII was developed a long time ago and now the non-printing characters are rarely used for their original purpose. Below is the ASCII character table and this includes descriptions of the first 32 non-printing characters. ASCII was actually designed for use with teletypes and so the descriptions are somewhat obscure. If someone says they want your CV however in ASCII format, all this means is they want 'plain' text with no formatting such as tabs, bold or underscoring - the raw format that any computer can understand. This is usually so they can easily import the file into their own applications without issues. Notepad.exe creates ASCII text, or in MS Word you can save a file as 'text only'

EBCDIC Codes
ASCII is not the only format in use out there. IBM adopted EBCDIC (Extended Binary Coded Decimal Interchange Code) developed for punched cards in the early 1960s and still uses it on mainframes today. It is probably the next most well known character set due to the proliferation of IBM mainframes. It comes in at least six slightly differing forms, so again here is the most common

Create a New Drive For ur Favourite Folder(Tried in Win Xp)

Use the SUBST command to substitute a drive letter for a path in order to treat a virtual drive (a reserved area rather than an actual disk drive) as a physical drive i.e create a new drive for your Favourite Folder in MS-DOS Prompt.

For e.g if you want to create a drive named Z for your Program files folder then u need to enter the followin in ur DOS mode : -

subst z: "c:\program files"-->Put in Quotes

This will create a drive named Z in your My Computer so that you can directly access your program files contents from this Drive.
You can also create a Seperate drive for your seperate folder for accessing data easily. For e.g Seperate drive for your music folder etc.

1. Open up the Start Menu
2. Type "regedit.exe" (without quotes) into the search box and hit enter
3. Navigate to "HKEY_Current_User\Control Panel\Desktop
4. Locate the key on the right side that says FeedbackToolEnabled
5. Double Click on FeedBackToolEnabled
6. Change the value from 3 to 0

Windows 7 includes many new way to manage your windows such as window snapping and cool tricks like Aero Shake. One secret that few users know about are the new keyboard shortcuts that are a big help for any power user. The following keyboard shortcuts provide another way to use the new window management features in Windows 7.

1) Windows key + up will maximize a window to fill the screen
2) Windows key + down arrow on a maximized window will restore it to the original size.
3) Windows key + down will minimize any regular window to the task bar.
4) Windows key + M will minimize any window to the task bar.
5) Windows key + right or left arrow snap a window to half of the screen. This is the same as dragging a window to far left or right side of the screen.

Employee who was supposed to be busy working at Client side on a critical
project. It had the subject - "TaTa - Bye Bye". With the worst premonition
he opened the mail and read the content with trembling hands:-

Dear Sir,

It is with great regret and sorrow that I'm writing you, but I'm leaving the
job. The offer was too lucrative and attractive for me to turn down. I had
to abscond because I wanted to avoid a scene with the HR and you. I am sorry
but I had no choice.

The project is working fine. There are only 108 issues pending, out of which
only 38% issues are High Priority. Hence I am sure there is no need to worry
about. The next Phase of major enhancements I have been working upon, have
been completed halfway. I am sure the new person who would replace me would
not understand what all I had done so far. Hence, for his and your
convenience, I have taken care to remove all the work that I had been doing
this far for nearly 3 months now. I am sure you will appreciate my insight
and "big heart".

I am of course retaining the Originals that I had retrieved for the purpose
of Passport verification with me, considering it as a parting gift from you.
Of course, I will not pay the bond amount that I owe the company (since I Am
breaking the bond). But I will consider this as a parting gift from our Dear
company. I moving out of town since the new company is situated in another
City.

Three men: a project manager, a software engineer, and a hardware engineer are helping out on a project. About midweek they decide to walk up and down the beach during their lunch hour. Halfway up the beach, they stumbled upon a lamp. Increase the Evaluation Trail Period of Windows 7

Windows 7 is going to continue the trend of rearm process in Windows 7 as well, that they did in Windows Vista. So here is a guide how you can increase the evaluation trail period by three times or more explicitly 120 days.
Trick

1. Install Windows 7 without any product activation key.

2. After installation is completed, use Windows 7 for 30 days and wait for the remaining days left to activate Windows counting down to 0, or almost zero.

3. When the activation grace period (or evaluation trial period) is almost expired log on to Windows 7 desktop, and open a Command Prompt window( type Cmd in Start Search and hit Enter)

4. Type
slmgr.vbs –rearm

5.Reboot Windows 7 to enjoy another 30 days of free usage without worrying about activation nor even need to crack Windows 7.

When the activation grace period countdown timer almost running down to 0 again, repeat the rearm trick to enjoy another 30 days of Windows 7 for free. User can run the rearm command for maximum of 3 times.
Windows Vista slmgr.vbs Configuration

slmgr.vbs is an important feature in Windows Vista. Lemme tell you what other things you can achieve with it.

* -ipk Product Key Install enterprise license key (where Product Key represents the actual key) to enable KMS host functionality.
* -dli Display license information.
* -ato Attempt immediate activation.
* -sprt port Set KMS host listening port (where port is the port ID).
* -sdns Enable dynamic DNS publishing (default).
* -cdns Disable dynamic DNS publishing.
* -cpri Set KMS processor priority to low.
* -spri Set KMS processor priority to normal (default).
* -xpr Display the date when the activation will expire.

Minesweeper: Stop The Timer

1.When you start to play a new game, the timer is ticking...

Secret - Reveal Mines

Instructions - Minimize or close all running applications. Launch Minesweeper, then type xyzzy. Next hold down either shift key for one second. Now when you move the mouse cursor over a Minesweeper square you will see a tiny white pixel in the top left corner of your desktop screen. This pixel will change to black when your mouse moves over a mine. You may need to change you desktop background to a solid color other then white or black to see the pixel.

Instructions - Type 1max at the start of a new ball to get extra balls.

Secret - Gravity Well
Instructions - Type gmax at the start of a new game to activate the Gravity Well.

Secret - Instant Promotion
Instructions - Type rmax at the start of a new game to go up in ranks.

Secret - Skill Shot
Instructions - Launch the ball partially up the chute past the third yellow light bar so it falls back down to get 75,000 points. There are six yellow light bars that are worth a varying amount of points:

First: 15,000 points
Second: 30,000 points
Third: 75,000 points
Fourth: 30,000 points
Fifth: 15,000 points
Sixth: 7,500 points

Secret - Test Mode
Instructions - Type hidden test at the start of a new ball to activate Test Mode. No notification will be given that this is activated but you can now left-click the mouse button and drag the ball around.

Secret - Unlimited Balls
Instructions - Type bmax at the start of a new ball. No notification will be given that this is activated but when a ball is lost a new ball will appear from the yellow wormhole indefinitely. Once this is activated you will be unable to activate other secrets without restarting

Solitaire

Secret - Instant Win

Instructions - Press Alt + Shift + 2 during game play to instantly win.

Secret - Draw single cards in a Draw Three game

Instructions - Hold down CTRL + ALT + SHIFT while drawing a new card. Instead of drawing three cards you will only draw one.

Infinite Points

In the Windows XP version of solitaire, draw from the deck at least twice. Hold control and drag a card down from the deck. Click the "A" key and then let go of the left mouse key. You will get 10 points for this. Continue doing this for infinite points!

Infinite points trick II

To do this trick, finish a game of solitaire with the time bonus option on. The cards will start bouncing. Click on the solitaire screen and the play again box will pop up. Select no, so the solitaire screen is just blank green. Use the instant win cheat (Alt+Shift+2) and you will recieve the time bonus you got last game will be added to your last game's score. For example, if your time bonus was 5000, and your final score was 6000, after using this glitch, you will have a score of 11000. This glitch can be used as many times as you want.

registry hack which will allow you to see your opponents' cards
Launch REGEDIT.EXE and navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER Software Microsoft Windows CurrentVersion Applets Hearts. NOTE: You may have to create the Hearts key under Applets In the right-hand pane, create a new String Value. Immediately rename it to "ZB" (without the quotes); give it a value of "42" (again, sans quotes). The next time you're in a game of Hearts, press CTRL + SHIFT + ALT + F12.
